St Peter's Sponsor new Marlborough Community Orchard tree

Published: 10th December 2024 | St Peter’s Marlborough

On Tuesday 10th December horticulturalist Trish Rowell, Marlborough Community Orchard’s Orchard Guru visited St Peter’s with Philippa Davenport and Gerald Payne to plant the latest tree in St Peter’s grounds and the latest contribution to Marlborough Community Orchard.

The tree planted was a Julia’s Late Golden apple tree, making it the fifth apple tree in St Peter’s grounds. The plaque on this tree reads ‘St Peter’s Trust, Preserving Our Past, Protecting Our Future’.

This contribution to the Community Orchard reaffirms our commitment to Marlborough’s community projects and investing in St Peter’s grounds for the betterment of use by visitors and the local community alike.

Marlborough Community Orchard was started by a group of determined volunteers with a vision of a town among the trees. They wanted to do something about the decline in native orchards over the past 50 years and to make Marlborough a better place to live. They gained the support of local people, community groups and businesses; raising funds for trees and identifying sites for planting. In 2010 the first trees were planted as small whips in the Jubilee Gardens and today there are nearly 100 mature trees in the town for everyone to enjoy.
