Avebury Vocal Ensemble
The Avebury Vocal Ensemble will be performing on Sunday 15th June at 7.00pm.
The principal work is the “Little Jazz Mass” by Bob Chilcott, a past member of the King’s Singers who is one of our greatest contemporary choral composers and who has just turned seventy. It is a refreshingly different setting of the principal sections of the traditional Mass and we will perform it with piano and bass accompaniment.
As the concert follows swiftly upon Ascension Day and takes place on Trinity Sunday itself, we offer appropriate motets by Peter Philips, Orlando Gibbons and Tchaikovsky. With two madrigals and a partsong, we also honour the following anniversaries; Thomas Vautor who, together with Gibbons died in 1625 and the Victorian, William Sterndale-Bennett who died in 1875.
We complete the programme with lighter works by Haydn, “Matrimonial Harmony”, and Schubert, “Der Tanz” and his lovely setting of Psalm 23 for ladies’ voices, together with a complete contrast in the perennial “Rhythm of Life” by Cy Coleman.
