SUMMARY:Brilliant International Musicians Series: James Gilchrist (tenor) and Anna Tilbrook (piano)
DESCRIPTION:Programme \n \nAnna Tilbrook (piano) \nAnna has been a regular artist at all the major concert halls and festivals since her debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1999 and frequently broadcasts for Radio 3. She has collaborated with many leading singers and instrumentalists\, and has also accompanied José Carreras\, Angela Gheorghiu and Bryn Terfel in televised concerts. Recent performances include at Concertgebouw Amsterdam\, Carnegie Hall New York\, Wigmore Hall\, and St John’s Smith Square; appearances at the Edinburgh\, Aldeburgh\, and Cheltenham festivals; and curating a number of series of concerts for the BBC. In 2022 Anna and James Gilchrist celebrated 25 years as a duo partnership. They have made a series of acclaimed recordings of English songs for Linn and Chandos\, the songs and chamber music of Vaughan Williams with Philip Dukes\, “Solitude”\, and most recently a disc of songs by Roger Quilter. \nJames Gilchrist (tenor) \nTenor James Gilchrist began his working life as a doctor\, turning to a full-time music career in 1996. His extensive concert repertoire has seen him perform in major concert halls throughout the world with renowned conductors including Sir John Eliot Gardiner\, Sir Roger Norrington\, and Richard Hickox. \n \nA master of English music\, he has performed Britten’s Church Parables in St Petersburg\, in London and at the Aldeburgh Festival; Nocturne with the NHK Symphony in Tokyo; and War Requiem with the San Francisco Symphony and the National Youth Orchestra of Germany. \nBach’s Christmas Oratorio and the St John and St Matthew Passion feature prominently in James’ schedule\, and he is celebrated as perhaps the finest Evangelist of his generation; as one review noted\, “he hasn’t become a one-man Evangelist industry by chance”. Highlights of the 2023-24 season include Bach’s Mass in B Minor with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Richard Egarr\, Mozart’s Requiem with the Royal Northern Sinfonia\, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio on tour in Austria with L’Orfeo Barockorchester. Next season\, James reprises of the role of Rev. Horace Adams in Deborah Warner’s acclaimed production of Britten’s Peter Grimes in his house debut at the Opera di Roma. \n  \nThis event has been selected for St Peter’s Trust membership discount. SUMMARY:Chap's Choir & The Bebington Bitter Men Tickets only at the door
DESCRIPTION:Chaps Choir (London) & The Bebington Bitter Men (The Wirral) are coming to Wiltshire to celebrate singing and raise funds for mental health charity CALM. This is the second time these men’s choirs have combined forces to bring an evening of sonorous entertainment. Prepare for pop re-hashes\, snowy hunting calls\, songs of the sea and\, well\, lots of men singing …\n\n\n\nChaps Choir \n\nChaps Choir is a large male singing gang from London; say goodbye to the male voice choir most would recognise. The group has been sharing its joy-inducing\, heart-string pulling repertoire to audiences since 2013. \nTheir voices have filled the Royal Festival Hall\, The Union Chapel & other major London venues. Featured at Wilderness & Port Eliot festivals the choir has slowly built a name through its urbane entertaining presentation and unexpected repertoire choices. They’ve performed live on Saturday night prime time TV\, recorded at Abbey Road and been the subject of articles\, news pieces & podcasts exploring men’s singing & male community. \nCollaborations with artists & organisations include: Omar\, Joe Stilgoe\, Samantha Whates\, The Spooky Men’s Chorale\, CALM & The Choir With No Name. The choir has released a full length live album as well as numerous singles and video projects over the years\, aiding its mission to bring the metropolitan singing chap into the choral melee. They envision a world where all chaps (and ‘other’ men) can find their singing voice. \nThe choir was founded and is run by singer & choir director Dom Stichbury. Dom creates positive spaces that encourage men to express themselves through song and community. He performs with The Spooky Men’s Chorale and is one half of singing duo ‘Ben & Dom’. \n\n\nhttp://chapschoir.com\n@chapschoir\n\n\n \nThe Bebington Bitter Men\n\nThe Bittermen are ordinary blokes who make an extraordinary sound. \nFrom Georgian laments\, to the West Coast sounds of the 1960s\, to straight-up sea shanties\, the Bittermen are an a a cappella vocal collective that celebrate the age old tradition of men singing together. Formed in 2014 by their musical director James Sills\, the Bittermen are equally at home singing on the concert stage\, at festivals and especially in their spiritual home: The Rose & Crown pub in Bebington\, Wirral\, UK.  Over the years they have performed at both Liverpool Cathedrals\, at events for BBC Worldwide and in 2021 the Bittermen provided the vocals for Guinness ad campaign ‘Always On My Mind.’

SUMMARY:Roof Appeal: Beth Taylor and Hamish Brown
DESCRIPTION:Hamish Brown (piano)\, who is originally from Marlborough\, accompanies the Glaswegian mezzo-soprano\, Beth Taylor in a song recital inspired by the sea.   “Lauded for her ‘strong presence’\, ‘sensational coloratura’ and ‘intriguing depth'”\, Beth is at the onset of a major international career. She was one of the finalists in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition 2023 and has a busy career both in opera and on the concert platform.  Beth and Hamish have performed on many occasions together\, including at the 2024 Schubertiada\, Vilabertran in Spain\, where their recital was warmly reviewed\, with Beth’s voice likened to the legendary Kathleen Ferrier and Janet Baker\, and Hamish’s accompaniment described as “a magnificent pearly sound … the sonority of which seemed to infect the voice in a total symbiosis”.    There are no tickets required for this concert – seating will be available on a first come\, first served basis and we hope you will feel able to give generously to the retiring collection in aid of St Peter’s Church Roof Appeal.  A bar will be available in the interval.
