SUMMARY:Marlborough Ecstatic Dance Journey
DESCRIPTION:Marlborough Ecstatic Dance Journey & Cacao: The Four Elements + Live Music\nEcstatic Sound and Movement Journey with Cacao\, & Music Themed to The Four Elements – LIVE Didgeridoo\, Handpan\, Shruti & Vocals \n\n\nJoin Alison from Just BE Sound and Movement Therapy and David\, Nomadic Therapist for this Ecstatic Dance Journey – The Four Elements\, with live didgeridoo\, handpan\, shruti and vocals. \nThis is part of The Four Elements January Tour – 9 dances across Berkshire\, Wiltshire and Somerset. \nPRE-BOOK – https://www.eventbrite.com/e/marlborough-ecstatic-dance-journey-cacao-the-four-elements-live-music-tickets \nTICKETS ON THE DOOR £22 – Email alisonheaslewood@outlook.com or arrive at 7.15pm. \n********** \nEnter the space in sacred silence from 7.20pm and join us in meditation. \nAt 7.30pm\, sitting in circle\, you’ll be guided through a short centring practice\, with an invitation to scan the body\, emotions and mind. This practice is an oppportunity to bring more presence to your experience and to connect more deeply with your self and your heart. \nAs we move into our cacao ceremony\, we pass our Guatemalan cacao around the circle with love\, before practicing gratitude and setting intentions together. \nWe’ll begin our movement journey together with a little guidance to warm up. The invitation is to disconnect the mind and connect with the body freely\, without self-judgement or fearing judgement from others. Movement is conscious\, intuitive and spontaneous as you allow the vibrations of the sound to resonate in whichever way feels right for you. Each dance journey is different\, with the music an eclectic mix of different genres. You’ll be invited to be curious with your exploration of your body and movements\, to bring moment by moment awareness to what’s moving through you. \nThe evening will close with a sound bath with didgeridoo\, handpan\, shruti and vocals\, a short closing circle with fruit\, and some optional time to socialise. \n  \nIMPORTANT INFO: \nThis is an over 16’s\, safe\, respectfully alcohol and drug free environment. We move/dance barefoot or with grip socks. Photos/videos may be taken during the event. Come and join our friendly\, growing community! \nPlease note that by purchasing a ticket you agree that Just BE Sound and Movement Therapy is not liable for any injury or harm that you may incur at this event (dancing only exactly as YOU feel to) & you agree to take full responsibility of yourself\, your health\, your wellbeing and all of your belongings whilst at the session. Thank you. \n  \nWHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY: \n‘What an experience\, mind blowing\, loved every minute of it!’ \n‘That was the best experience of my life! To feel no judgement in a room full of people!’ \n‘How does ecstatic dance feel? Like you are truly in your own world\, letting your body take in and respond to wonderful music….to really FEEL the music and what that brings up in your body. ‘ \n‘Alison incorporates a few questions and prompts which guide you to really be in the moment and let go further. As a newbie to this type of dance\, I’ve tried it a handful of times and am completely hooked. I had never danced before and was very self-conscious at first\, I’m overjoyed at how liberating and natural this feels and it is now one of my core activities for self -and soul nourishment!’ \n‘Your voice was incredible! Added another dimension to the journey. Such a beautiful experience.’ \n  \nWHERE: St Peters Church\, Marlborough. There is free parking in the high street after 6pm. \nPLEASE BRING: Wear comfortable clothing\, dress as the authentic YOU. Bring a water bottle\, grip socks if you do not want to move barefoot. You may wish to bring a blanket for the relaxation at the end. \nCANCELLATIONS: No refunds\, however\, you may nominate another person to attend in your place if you are unable to. \nCACAO: Contraindications: Ceremonial Cacao is not recommended for anyone in the first trimester of pregnancy\, with a serious heart condition\, epilepsy or taking antidepressants. If you would like to still attend and take a much lower dose\, you can do so at your own risk. Our Cacao is First Grade Ceremonial Cacao from Guatemala. \nCacao is a powerful plant medicine that contains iron\, zinc\, potassium\, copper\, and magnesium which contribute to cardiovascular health. It is said to have benefits for depression as it contains anandamide\, the bliss molecule and has the ability to trigger the release of dopamine and endorphins and increase serotonin. Cacao also has powerful antioxidants and can balance blood sugar levels by increasing the blood flow to the brain. This helps with focus and awareness. Cacao also has spiritual and emotional benefits and can help us to connect with our higher self\, tune in to our intuition and access transformational states. \n  \nABOUT: \nAlison – Just BE Sound and Movement Therapy is run by Alison Heaslewood who qualified in Sound and Movement Therapy with the British Academy of Sound Therapy. She is also the founder of Ecstatic Dance Berkshire. \nFollowing a five year episode of chronic pain in her twenties and a diagnosis of fibromyalgia\, she turned to alternative methods of healing\, including Sound Therapy. Along with sound\, movement was instrumental in her full recovery. She has been supported on her spiritual path by cacao\, meditation and connecting to nature\, and has been continually called to explore deep practices of surrender and awareness. \nWith five years vocal training she has discovered the power of the voice to heal and brings soothing vocals into her sound sessions along with other percussion. \nShe creates nurturing\, relaxing and safely held spaces for anyone seeking a space to Just BE. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/soundandmovementtherapy \nTo read reviews: https://www.facebook.com/JustBEsoundandmovementtherapy \nDavid – Sound Healer\, Master Dowser \nhttps://www.nomadictherapist.com \nhttps://www.instagram.com/nomadic_therapist \nhttps://www.facebook.com/DowsingDavid \nDavid is a key member of the Ecstatic Dance Berkshire Team. His deep connection with Earth energies and sound has most recently led him to hold sacred sound baths in West Kennet Long Barrow. A talented musician\, he plays didgeridoo\, handpan\, drum and bowls\, and often plays during or after Ecstatic Dances. In particular\, his didgeridoo playing has been well received by the dance community\, as the vibrations bring new depths to the journeys and create space for deep healing. He also leads meditations\, walks and teaches dowsing.

SUMMARY:Brilliant International Musicians Series: Ensemble Renard (wind quintet)
DESCRIPTION:Programme for Sunday 1st December: \nUmoja – Valerie Coleman\nSummer Music – Samuel Barber\nWind Quintet – Thea Musgrave\nSix Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm\, from Mikrokosmos – Bela Bartok\, arr. George Strivens \nINTERVAL \nSix Bagatelles – Gyorgy Ligeti\nAndante – Mozart\nQuintette – Francaix \n  \nEnsemble Renard comprises five of the country’s most outstanding young musicians. Together\, they exist to explore a wide range of timbral possibilities within modern day chamber performance. Centrally a wind quintet\, Ensemble Renard’s frequent collaboration with composers and guest instrumentalists allows them to showcase a prismatic variety of colours. \nEnsemble Renard carefully curate compelling and contrasting programmes tailored to each audience\, aiming to take repertoire rarely given the light of day to audiences from London to the Hebrides and beyond. From Gershwin to Knussen\, each piece they play demonstrates the kaleidoscopic versatility of the ensemble\, and most  Ensemble Renard concerts feature works especially written or arranged for them. \nEnsemble Renard have quickly emerged onto the scene as one of the UK’s most promising young chamber ensembles. To date\, they have been made Tunnell Trust awardees\, Britten-Pears Young Artists\, Stoller Hall Young Artists\, and awardees of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust’s Recital Scheme. Performance highlights of the ensemble’s career so far include their European debut at the Dinard Opening Festival in Brittany\, a recital at the Aldeburgh Festival\, and an appearance on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ with Sean Rafferty. \nEnsemble Renard champion new music and regularly commission works for wind quintet\, having begun their career working with composers including Hans Abrahamsen and John Woolrich on performances of their repertoire. They were among the first artists to be awarded a grant from the Vaughan Williams Foundation in support of a new commission by Luke Lewis\, and in 2023 they recorded their debut album of commissions by the Stomping Ground collective. \nThe Ensemble’s members are some of the most promising young classical musicians of the moment\, who regularly perform with the London Symphony Orchestra\, London Philharmonic Orchestra\, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra\, Aurora Orchestra\, London Sinfonietta\, Manchester Camerata\, English Touring Opera\, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra\, London Chamber Orchestra\, and the English National Opera\, to name but a few. \nEnsemble Renard’s concert diary has something for everyone. They can be found performing traditional recitals at music clubs up and down the country\, putting on family concerts with narrator and school-based workshops\, recitals in collaboration with organisations including Wigmore Hall and Spitalfields Music\, in addition to performances at new music festivals in collaboration with a host of different composers. \nThe 2023/34 season will see Ensemble Renard continue to take their work across the UK\, with performances at Snape Maltings as Britten-Pears Young Artists for the second year running; recitals at venues including St John’s Smith Square and the Stoller Hall\, and a return for the third year running to the Llanfyllin Music Festival in Wales.

SUMMARY:Sound Knowledge - Wendy James\, Album Launch
DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled that Wendy James will be joining us for a stripped-back performance and signing in our spiritual home of St. Peter’s Church from 7pm on Monday 4th November\, to celebrate the release of her brand new album The Shape Of History. \nThe Shape Of History is the tenth solo album from the former Transvision Vamp frontwoman and was recorded on Scrubs Lane\, West London with Alex Ward\, Harry Bohay and James Sclavunos\, and in NYC and Brooklyn with Dave ‘The Moose’ Sherman. Engineered in Shepherd’s Bush by Al Lawson and mixed with Jesse Nichols in Berkeley CA before mastering with Fred Kevorkian in Brooklyn NY. \nJames says of the album\, “The Shape Of History has a lot about love in it\, a lot about appreciation of oneself\, one’s life and importantly\, of others. It is life’s arc of starting out\, blooming into something and in some ways maturing. I don’t think my music has got older\, I know I’ve not gone mellow!” \nTo pre-order a copy of ‘The Shape of History’ (released 25th October) on CD or LP and guarantee entry to this event\, click here.

SUMMARY:Brilliant International Musicians Series: Ingmar Lazar (solo piano)
DESCRIPTION:Doors open: 18:15\nConcert starts: 19:00 \nBorn in France in 1993\, Ingmar Lazar made his début at the age of 6 at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. Prizewinner of several international competitions\, he was the recipient of the Tabor Foundation Piano Award at the Verbier Festival in 2013. In 2020 he became prizewinner of the Ateliers Médicis\, with the support of the French Ministry of Culture\, and is a Steinway Artist.  \nHailed by the Classica Magazine as a “pianist of magnetic presence\,” Ingmar is internationally praised for his deep and moving performances\, as well as for his brilliant control and stupendous technique. He has firmly established himself as one of the leading French musicians of his generation.  \nHe performs in the world’s most prestigious halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam\, Herkulessaal in Munich\, International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg\, Verdi Hall of the Milan Conservatory\, La Seine Musicale in Paris\, and Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow\, to name a few. He is regularly invited to many distinguished festivals including Festspiele Mecklenburg- Vorpommern\, La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival\, Colmar International Festival\, Festival Chopin in Paris\, Sant Pere de Rhodes Music Festival\, and the Gotthard Klassik-Festival.  \nHe collaborates with conductors such as Vladimir Spivakov\, Jean- Jacques Kantorow\, Mathieu Herzog\, and Peter Vizard among many others\, and performs with orchestras including the National Philharmonic of Russia\, the Moscow Virtuosi\, the Orchestre Lamoureux\, L’Ensemble Appassionato\, Le Concert de la Loge\, and the Lviv Philharmonic Academic Symphony Orchestra to name a few.  \nSince 2016\, Ingmar Lazar has been the founder and artistic director of the Festival du Bruit qui Pense\, in north-central France. Its goal is to create strong ties between artists and the audience with interactive post-concert interviews and discussions. He is also the artistic director of the piano festival Escapades Pianistiques taking place at the Château de Commarin\, near Dijon\, since 2021.  \n  \nPROGRAMME \nFelix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)\nVariations sérieuses Opus 54 \nThe “serious” attribute of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Variations sérieuses” (composed in 1841) is intended here in order to insist on the composer’s wish to write something quite different from the usual applause-seeking “Variations brillantes”\, which were popular at the time. This work\, often considered one of Mendelssohn’s most personal and introspective compositions\, reflects his romantic sensibilities while drawing on classical forms\, making it a staple of the piano repertoire. \nFrédéric Chopin (1810-1849)\nThree Mazurkas Opus 59\, Polonaise Opus 44 \nIt is known that Mendelssohn and Chopin were close friends\, and their common reverence towards Bach’s music is evident in the way they have both developed their musical language. The national folklore was also a constant source of inspiration for Chopin\, and led to some of his most unique masterpieces. He reached a perfection of creative refinement in his Mazurkas\, and his Polonaises reveal the epic nobility and heroic spirit of his mother country Poland. The Polonaise Op. 44 is perhaps his most patriotic due to its dramatic character and its contrasting central Mazurka. \nINTERVAL \nCésar Franck (1822-1890)\nGrand caprice opus 5 \nThe impact of the virtuosic piano composers of the 19th Century was an inspiration for many musicians\, and we tend to forget that César Franck\, before becoming one of the most influential organists\, had the dream of becoming a virtuoso pianist himself. His Grand Caprice\, composed at the age of 23\, is perhaps his most representative work from his youth for the piano\, and impresses through its tremendous difficulty but also the singularity of its themes which are announcing the unique musician that he will later become. \nGeorges Bizet (1838-1875)\nNocturne in D Major \nAnother composer that one wouldn’t naturally associate with the piano is Georges Bizet\, who during his lifetime was compared to Liszt himself regarding his prowess at the keyboard! One can perceive the tendency of the composer of “Carmen” for pianistic brilliance even in such a moving and poetic work as his Nocturne in D Major. \nFranz Liszt (1811-1886)\nWedding March and Fairies Dance from Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream\, S. 410 \nThe overview of the pianistic traditions of the 19th Century would have definitely not have been complete without Franz Liszt\, who revolutionised and set new standards in the history of piano performance. This complete musician was also one of the most generous personalities among composers\, constantly promoting the works of fellow musicians in which he believed. A perfect example of his genius as a transcriber can be found in his Paraphrase of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March\, where his unique sense for dramaturgy is being combined with his perfect knowledge of the instrument\, and gives us also a glimpse of what a stupendous improviser he had to be. The art of transcription was not considered as something minor at that time\, and this work most certainly proves it.

SUMMARY:Brilliant International Musicians Series: Joana Ly (violin) and Martin Andre (piano)
DESCRIPTION:Joana Ly (violin) and Martin Andre (piano)\nDoors open 18:15\, concert begins 19:00 \nProgramme for the evening:\n\n– Dora Pejacevic: Spring Sonata\n– Maurice Moszkowski: 4 morceaux\n– Beethoven: Spring Sonata \n\nJoana Ly – Bio \nPortuguese violinist Joana started playing violin aged 4\, and soon joined the Aveiro Conservatoire of Music where she studied until finishing school. After that\, her violin studies took her to Lisbon (ANSO)\, London (RCM)and Rotterdam (Codarts)\, thanks to the support of the Gulbenkian Foundation. During this time she was lucky to be part of some fantastic training orchestras such as Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and Southbank Sinfonia. Currently her orchestral work is mainly in the UK with ensembles such as Philharmonia\, Opera North\, London Mozart Players\, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. \nChamber music plays a big part in her life\, having been part of two string quartets and currently managing her ensemble Artisti con Brio. This has led to playing at numerous festivals around Europe\, such as Buxton Festival\, Harmus Festival\, Stift International Festival\, and Lake District Chamber Music. Now her own festival keeps her busy – Islington Festival of Music and Art – and she recently joined the ENB Philharmonic Orchestra.  \nMartin Andre – Bio \nMartin enjoys working equally in the opera house and the concert hall\, all over the world. Martin is also the co-founder and co-director of the Islington Festival of Music and Art. After learning the violin and piano at the Yehudi Menuhin School\, he studied music at Cambridge University\, and made his professional début conducting Aida for Welsh National Opera in 1982.  \nThis year Martin has just reached the landmark of 40 years of conducting operas and concerts in nearly 30 countries around the world! He has worked with many of the major British orchestras\, as well as with other orchestras in Holland\, Norway and Portugal.  \nMartin is passionate about helping the next generation of musicians\, especially conductors. He created the 4 Year Orchestra Repertoire Training Programme for the Royal College of Music\, where he is a Fellow. He also formed the National Youth Orchestra of Portugal\, which he managed for 5 years\, including a triumphant tour of Italy. He also enjoys playing the piano in chamber music groups.
