We’re delighted to welcome back the brilliant The Big Moon to Marlborough. Having last joined us in the shop for an instore around the release of their Top 10 album ‘Here Is Everything’, the band will be appearing at St. Peter’s Church on Thursday 29th October to celebrate the forthcoming release of its follow-up, ‘Forever’, with an acoustic set.

Where the previous album found chief songwriter Juliette Jackson processing the pandemic and the life-altering experience of new motherhood, the songs on ‘Forever’ emerged from the aftermath of a condition that resulted in hearing loss in one ear. In characteristically defiant fashion, the resulting album features some of The Big Moon’s most joyous and uplifting music, stemming from Jackson manifesting “a happy ending that didn’t exist yet.” Recorded over three weeks at Norfolk’s Bam Bam Studios, with Kevin Morby-collaborator Sam Cohen co-producing alongside the band (Soph Nathan, Celia Archer and Fern Ford), ‘Forever’ is brimming with hook-heavy alt-pop gems.

‘Forever’ is released on Friday 30th October on CD, LP and a limited edition “Sparkle/Starlight” vinyl. We’d ask you to consider supporting the artist and us by buying the physical product bundles where possible- it’s better value for you and will help us to deliver these exclusive events to you in future. Standalone tickets are limited to one per basket, but you can purchase as many physical bundles as you like.

PLEASE NOTE- All tickets are collection-only. We’d urge you to collect your tickets in advance from the shop but, if you can’t get to us before, you can collect at the venue when doors open for the show. Please have your order number/confirmation email to hand. If you pay postage for a bundle, this will be for the album which will be sent out to you to arrive on/around the release date.

Under 16s must have tickets and be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. We can’t admit under-12s for this one. This is a STANDING event but please notify us by email if you have any access requirements.

Two brilliant musicians. One unforgettable night.

Our Brilliant International Musicians series continues with an evening of moonlight, starlight and serenades. In the first half, Jaynne Baley takes the piano for Beethoven’s haunting Moonlight Sonata, Debussy’s shimmering Clair de Lune, three thrilling Rachmaninoff preludes and a jazzy finish from Gershwin.

After the interval, Jaynne sings, accompanied by Jack Campbell. Starlit Debussy and Barber’s glowing Sure on This Shining Night begin a journey through the night, including rarely heard gems by Florence Price, John W. Work and other great Black American composers, and Bolcom’s wickedly fun cabaret song Black Max. The evening closes with ravishing serenades by Schumann, Brahms and Strauss.

All of this in the intimate setting of St Peter’s, where you’re just a few feet from the performers.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Jaynne Baley, piano & soprano

“The passion flowed from her fingers like a gushing stream” – The Times

Born in Stuttgart, Jaynne Baley is the granddaughter of the great baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. She has won prizes at the Hindemith International Piano Competition, the Wigmore Hall Song Competition and the Helmut Deutsch International Song Competition. She has played concertos at the Berlin Philharmonie, given recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, and toured twelve cities across China playing Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. She’s even the only pianist besides the composer’s own wife ever to have played Antal Doráti’s piano concerto.

Since 2018 she has followed her lifelong dream of singing professionally, learning from legends including Christa Ludwig, Elly Ameling and her late grandfather. At this concert you’ll hear her do both: playing the first half, singing the second.

Jack Campbell, piano

Recital hall or music hall, Jack Campbell brings the same spark to both. Crowned “most promising young pianist” at the Somerset Song Prize and a semi-finalist at Romania’s fiercely competitive Enescu Competition, he has taken on some of the biggest concertos in the repertoire, from Tchaikovsky’s to Saint-Saëns’ dazzling “Egyptian”.

He writes music too: his In Stillness Darkening for harpsichord and electronics was premiered in Amsterdam. He’s a Silver Medal winner from the Royal College of Music, and next month he plays Mozart’s beloved “Elvira Madigan” Concerto before heading to North Wales Opera Studio for Madama Butterfly.

We’re delighted to welcome back Jake Bugg to Marlborough for an intimate performance on Saturday 14th November to celebrate the release of his brand new album ‘Alamo’. Jake will be in conversation and playing a solo set from 7.30pm in the beautiful, historic St. Peter’s Church, racking up his third SK appearance in a third different venue.

Having emerged from a Nottingham council estate to top the charts with his Mercury-nominated debut album at just 18, Jake is now heading into his thirties and his latest album captures him in reflective mood. ‘Alamo’ is Jake’s seventh studio album and his most personal and heartfelt to date. Lyrically and sonically the album has a distinctly raw and rootsy honesty. It was recorded in London with producer Jimmy Hogarth.

‘Alamo’ is released on Friday 13th November 2026 on CD, LP and an indies exclusive orange vinyl. Four-piece Moonrakers (www.moonrakers.net) perform sparkling, distinctive arrangements of traditional British folk songs and tunes, alongside their own compositions. Their multi-instrumental concerts feature harp, cello, fretted instruments, whistles, and female/male vocals. Informative, varied, and suitable for all ages, their live shows blend ancient mystic ballads, beautiful lyrical tunes, and joyous chorus songs.

Once again, this year, as part of Marlborough’s Christmas Lights Switch-On, we’re delighted to open our much-loved Santa’s Grotto.

Bring the little ones along to meet Father Christmas and his little elves, share their Christmas wishes and soak up the festive magic.

The grotto is free to visit, thanks to the generous sponsorship of St Peter’s.
