DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to welcome Martin back with his outstanding world class music. His last concert in Marlborough sold out. \nWidely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world\, his interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling. His solo shows are intense\, eclectic\, spellbinding and deeply moving. \nThere is no-one who has more successfully combined the diverse elements of British\, Afro-American and old-timey music than Simpson. His 15 years living in the US were well spent. In addition his own songwriting has produced some real gems\, from the truck-stop epic\, “Love Never Dies” to the profoundly moving “Never Any Good” and “One Day”. \nHis career includes collaborations on stage and record with June Tabor\, Kelly Joe Phelps\, Jackson Browne\, Danny Thompson\, Danú\, Martin Carthy\, Cara Dillon\, David Lindley\, Roy Bailey\, Martin Taylor\, David Hidalgo\, Steve Miller\, Dick Gaughan and many more. \nMartin has been nominated an astounding 31 times in the fifteen years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards \, more than any other performer . \nNow to celebrate 50 years since the release of his first album Martin has recorded an new album shortly to be releases ‘Some Kind of Jubilee’. For this landmark recording\, Martin has gathered an extraordinary ensemble of collaborators he has met along his storied career. The album features performances from: \nGreg Leisz (Jackson Browne\, Bob Dylan\, Joni Mitchell) – pedal steel guitar\nZac Hobbs (Rufus and Martha Wainwright\, Emmylou Harris) – guitar\nLiz Hanks (Richard Hawley\, Liam Gallagher) – cello\nLouis Campbell (Sam Sweeney\, Sam Lee) – guitar\nBen Nicholls (Seth Lakeman\, Cara Dillon) – double bass \nRecorded at Jackson Browne’s Groovemaster studio in Santa Monica and completed in Yorkshire\, the album weaves together newly written songs\, reimagined traditional material\, and fresh interpretations of classics from Simpson’s extensive catalogue. \nSimpson’s journey began with Golden Vanity\, recorded and produced by Bill Leader at Leader Sound and originally released on the Trailer label.
